The proposed “Shore Drive Trail” is $1.8 million of taxpayers money due to be constructed by St. Johns County in Shore Drive Park in the Saint Augustine South community. According to the deed that said that construction could not take place on these dedicated parkways, the current plans describe a 16,379-foot (approx. 3.1 miles) asphalt trail that is 5′ wide. While the project is described as a recreational addition, the construction specifications reveal a complex industrial process involving heavy machinery, excavation, and long-term site disruption.
